ACTO acquires imaginar.com

I’m pleased to announce our new domain name investment: Imaginar.com

I was looking forward to buy this domain name wich has a lot of potential. Verbs are big in this business, “Imaginar” is a spanish word that means “to imagine”.

As a domain investor, I believe a good domain is an important part of an online strategy, but as content producer I also know that the real success of a business depends on the quality of the product and not just on the name.

Google acquires Metaweb:Great content from the web’s best sources.

The web isn’t merely words, it’s information about things in the real world

Google has just acquired what looks to be a revolutionary content aggregator for web developers. Metaweb build a platform which enables site owners, publishers and developers to easily and intelligently add content from across the Web. With a large open database of things in the world Metaweb provides site owners with a seamless way to access third party content from leading sources like New York Times, Twitter, Rotten Tomatoes, Hulu, and a wide range of others.

As the amount of information on the Web continues to expand, it is becoming increasingly important for bloggers, site owners, and publishers to surface the right content for their readers. Metaweb is a resource to help site owners achieve that goal and keep their readers coming back.

This video explains the concept and how Metaweb could bring great content to site owners.

Second Trailer for “The Social Network” Hits the Web

The first trailer for The Social Network a.k.a. “the Facebook Movie,” didn’t reveal much. Now, the second trailer is out, and… we know perhaps even less.
Featured in the trailer are:

- Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook co-founder and CEO)

- Eduardo Saverin (co-founded Facebook during his last year of the Economics study at Harvard University. His departure from Facebook was the subject of subsequent legal action. He later won the right to have his name listed among the other founders in a lawsuit.)

- Dustin Moskovitz (co-founder of Facebook – left the company in October 2008)

- Erica Albright (no idea who this is, but according to the screenplay a girl Zuckerberg was dating a couple of years ago)

- Divya Narendra (started ConnectU, the social network that sparked the idea for Facebook, with Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss. ConnectU ended up suing Facebook for stealing the idea and using some of their source code.)

- Tyler Winklevoss (Together with his twin brother Cameron and Narendra, owns ConnectU, previously HarvardConnection. In 2004, ConnectU filed a lawsuit against Facebook alleging that Zuckerberg had broken an oral contract with them. The parties reached a confidential settlement agreement in February, 2008.)

- Larry Summers (Former President of Harvard University)

- Sean Parker (In 2004, Parker began informally advising the creators of Facebook, and became its President when the company incorporated that same year. In 2006, Parker joined the Founders Fund, a venture capital fund based in San Francisco, as Managing Partner.)

- Cameron Winklevoss (see above)

For those not in the know, The Social Network is a Columbia Pictures film based on Ben Mezrich’s book “The Accidental Billionaires, A Tale of Sex, Money, Genius and Betrayal,” a story about the founding of Facebook. It hits theaters in October 2010.
